Adam asked:

Assuming I own the property outright, how much would it cost to open up a 12 lane bowling alley with a full arcade and some vending machines and maybe a small day care in the corner, including the cost of the building? Would a bank finance such a business idea with a minimal down payment? I have $150,000 in liquid assets and am wondering if this would be a feasable venture. The market where I am has absolutely no arcade or bowling alleys at all in a city of about 3000 people with surrounding smaller cities of about 2000 combined (within 30 minutes). There is no entertainment at all (no movie theatre). Would this be a good market?

ALTON

Amelie Mag asked:

Bowling is a popular sport among American men. The tools of the trade consist of a ball, shoes, bowling bags and other accessories. What are the characteristics of bowling balls? Can anyone make bowling balls in their own backyard or there is more to it?

A bowling ball is obviously a sphere, but the materials used to manufacture that sphere vary. Rubber, plastic, urethane, reactive resin are just some of the materials that can be used or combined to manufacture a bowling ball today.

There are different types of bowling: ten pin, five pin and candle pin. Each of them implies different types of bowling balls. The most widespread form is ten pin, and the bowling ball common for this sport has some different features as opposed to the others.

The regulations specify the weight of the ten pin bowling balls has to be less than 16 pounds or 7.2 kg. The diameter of the balls has to be 8.5 inches or 21.6 cm. As far as the physical aspect goes, the balls may look the same, but each of them may have a different weight.

Five pin bowling balls are manufactured according to other specifications. The weight of these balls needs to be between 3.25 and 3.625 pounds. The diameter is not exact and needs to be anywhere between 4.75 inches (12.1 cm) and 5 inches (12.7 cm).

The candle pin balls are even smaller than these, weighing only 2 pounds 7 ounces or 1.105 kg. Candle pin bowling is considered by many a greater challenge than the other sports because the ball is lighter than the pin, which weighs 2 pounds 8 ounces or 1.134 kg.

The bowling ball’s behavior on the lane is influenced by many factors. The most obvious of these factors is the player’s delivery. A player has many choices to make when launching the ball, but he has to know the roles each factor plays in the outcome.

Once the ball is out of the player’s hands, gravity takes control first. Once the ball reaches the surface of the lane, friction kicks in. The way player lets go of the ball and what forces he applies to it before influence the gyroscopic inertia. All of these factors need to be harmoniously combined to provide the best possible outcome when a player takes his shot: STRIKE.

Bowling balls come in different sizes. For average players that visit a bowling alley once in a while, using the balls found on the premises is common. But for the avid players, for which bowling is part of their lives, owning their own bowling ball is a necessity. Finding the bowling balls suited for your tastes can be difficult, but when you do, you also need to find bowling bags to match.

Bowling bags also come in different sizes, all of them manufactured to match different balls. Surfing the internet is probably the quickest solution you can go for in order to make comparisons and see a lot of interesting models. If you want bowling bags, balls, shoes, special towels and other unique accessories that appeal to your tastes, all at affordable prices, be sure to visit bowlingballsales.com.

GONZALO

Craig Chambers asked:

The wooden dough bowl is a true representation of items used in a typical Native American home. In the northern part of Mexico, high in the mountain regions, the Tarahumara people have primitive lifestyles and live in humble dwellings.

They support themselves by making handcrafts to sell like the wooden dough bowl. I have always loved the colorful baskets, weavings, jewelry and other hand-crafted items fashioned by this Tribe. It is fascinating that although the women make most of these hand-crafted items, the Tarahumara men enjoy working with wood and make incredible works of art using crude instruments and tools.

Like the wooden dough bowls, they also carve wooden spoons, figurines and traditional game balls to use in tribal foot races. These items made of wood have a simple, unpolished beauty, heightened by the characteristics of the wood.

You will also find it intriguing how the wood dough bowls are created. The making of the wooden bowl is started by hand chiseling a piece of pine wood taken from a fallen tree trunk. Indian log bowls are made by dividing the trunk in half and then roughly cutting it with an axe.

The wood is then chiseled into a bowl like shape with a machete or large knife, giving it that unique, rough and primitive aspect. This traditional style is the same way that antique dough bowls have been crafted throughout the Sierra Madre for centuries.

As you learn about these intriguing Native people, you will discover that the wood dough bowl is a very useful item in the Tarahumara home. It is used to hand-grind corn and wheat to make hand-made tortillas, an important part of the Tarahumara diet.

They then start by crushing the kernels into a stone bowl called a metate. The dough bowl is used to catch the flour at one end of the metate as it is ground by hand. Water is then mixed with the flour in the bowl and hand-made tortillas are made from the mixture.

Although still used by the Tarahumara Tribe for kneading dough and cooking, today dough bowls are made available to buyers for Native style decorating accessories and as Indian art for collection.

You will love using dough bowls for many things. They work wonderfully as collectibles, fruit bowls, and when used with rustic decorating items. They are also great when used for art projects when a blank canvas is needed for beautiful paintings and other Native American style art.

Dough bowls, painted with scenes of the southwest, are very unique and are a wonderful way to create western style in your interior design. A painted dough bowl creates a beautiful main feature for any primitive style room, cabin, lodge or ranch style home by adding the natural warm colors unique to southwest artwork.

You can buy log dough bowls online and in various stores that sell rustic and American Indian style home decor products. It is easy to create genuine Native style in your home, or to give your room an authentic rustic look by decorating with a Native Indian wooden dough bowl.

If you like the timeless culture and American Indian values, you will love having a piece of their beautiful artwork as part of your home decorating. To add true Native culture to your home and produce a look that is definitely unique, try adding a genuine native style wooden dough bowl to your home decor.

ROOSEVELT
