It is a sight to behold for cricket fans to see a fast bowler running from his bowling mark to deliver the perfect Yorker or bouncer to a batsman. In a game of cricket, Bowlers can be mainly categorized into 3 categories: Fast, Medium Fast and Spin Bowlers. Cricket is a game, which is said to be more a batsman friendly game. In a game where batsmen have all the advantages, bowlers must make use of all the cricket bowling tips that they have up their sleeves to unsettle the batsman.

To become a successful bowler you must have some amount of natural ability. Most of the successful bowlers of the world like Glen McGrath, Brett Lee, Shaun Pollock and Anil Kumble have very athletic body and based on their natural bowling ability they have been hugely successful. Whether you are a fast, slow or spin bowler, you must know the entire cricket bowling tips to be a successful bowler. A good bowler never lets go of any chance to learn any new cricket bowling tips.

To be a successful bowler first and foremost you must have the perfect grip for holding the ball correctly. There is a different grip and way of holding the ball for spinners and fast bowlers. So depending on the kind of bowler, one must choose the proper grip for holding the ball. However, there is a basic grip that you can use for holding the ball in your hand. This grip is to keep the seam of the ball vertical. You must hold the ball with your middle finger and index finger with the seam in between.

Being physically fit is one of the most important criteria for being a successful bowler. There has hardly been any bowler in the International cricket arena, who has not been injured throughout his cricketing career. In fact injuries are part and parcel of any bowler’s life. So if you want to be become the best bowler in the world you will have to take special care of your body. Follow a strict diet regime and exercise regularly to have the perfect body weight and shape to become a successful bowler.

If at any point you get injured do not make any delay in seeking medical help. The rehabilitation process can take a very long time and thus it is very important for you to follow whatever your physical therapist asks you to do. Take special care of your diet and religiously follow the strict diet regime set by your physio. Your delivery stride and position can get affected if you do not have the proper physical health.

Remember it takes you only one ball to get a batsman out, even if he is the best batsman in the world. It is natural that you will get hit for runs, but try to bowl each ball as a new ball and you will surely succeed. Simple lapses in concentration on the part of the batsman can prove to be his undoing, so bowl each ball very carefully with the proper grip and the correct deliver stride.

Here I would like you to know the basic important steps to better bowling and summarizes all that were mentioned in the other chapters. I hope this will help you in recalling some of the points on how to play the game of bowling. This are the general bowling tips which would of good use to you.

This chapter summarizes the most important steps to better bowling. Some of them have been mentioned in other chapters but they are repeated here because I believe that they cannot be emphasized too much.

Bowling is a sport so be a sport Try to keep uppermost in your mind that bowling is* a game, not a life-and-death matter. And because it is a game, you should play it as such. Take your “tough breaks” with a smile and your defeats like a gentleman. You will find that you are more popular with your fellow bowlers, and in addition you will bowl better. Displays of temper kicking racks, balls, or posts, and similar behavior stamp the offender as a poor sport, while adding nothing to his stature as a bowler. Let the score sheet do your talking for you.

Always stay behind the foul line This goes for practice just as much as for league or tournament play. Bowlers who pay little or no attention to the line in practice or in sociable games often suffer a rude and embarrassing awakening when they participate in a league or tournament and suddenly discover that they have fouled. Frequently, fouling spoils an individual’s entire evening, not only for score but also for his enjoyment of the proceedings. Be sure to allow enough distance for the number of steps, beginning with short steps. Do this faithfully in practice and you will not risk the bugaboo of fouling when the chips are down.

Concentrate on every shot, not merely on your first or “strike” ball. One should probably concentrate even more on the spare ball, for, as some have said, “Anybody can make a strike, but it takes a good man to make a spare.” While that is not strictly true, playing spares correctly is one of the basic components of a sound bowling game. Do not lose your temper if your first ball produces a tap or a railroad, but buckle down and shoot your second ball with careful determination. On an “impossible” split or railroad, aim for one pin. You will be surprised how often one or two pins prove to be the winning margin in close games.

Roll the ball don’t throw it There is a good, sound reason for this. If one throws a ball, it slides an indeterminate distance and “takes” at various places and in varying degrees. Obviously, there can be no consistency in such a delivery. On the other hand, a rolled ball is delivered smoothly and one can repeat this performance time after time without effort. As a result, the action of the ball “takes” at practically the same spot each time. To clinch the case, I would like to point out that a rolling ball is far more effective in toppling the pins, for it has a “mixing” action which the skidding ball cannot achieve.

Your natural speed is your best speed The speed at which you can best control the ball and have it working effectively is the best speed for you. When you have deter- mined your natural speed, you will find that you can bowl for long periods of time without tiring. If you “force” your ball, you cannot control it, and you will tire more quickly. Work on your speed so that you can find out which speed is natural to you.

When you practice, practice intelligently Concentrate on elimination of the faults you committed at your last session, and try to improve in those departments. Perhaps you have been hopping or lunging at the line. If so, concentrate on a smooth finish. Check your footwork and timing whatever you do, go about it deliberately not in a haphazard, hit-or-miss manner. Do the same thing time after time until you feel that you have overcome the fault. Practice may not be fun, but serious practice will pay off in future pleasure through consistently higher scores.

Learn to relax while bowling You cannot do your best when you are tense and overeager, because your approach becomes zigzaggy and your motions jerky. A smooth, easy delivery the kind you can use time after time without effort brings the best results.

These are many of the ideas and solutions to the many problems that I think can help you to play bowling better. They will help you only if you are able to use them to your benefits.

There are so many great things about bowling that many people are lured to play the game.

Almost anyone who is interested in sports would probably want to try to bowl. In fact, even those who do not have any particular interest in other sports enjoy this one because bowling is so easy to play that anyone can enjoy it.

No wonder almost 50 million people play this game in the United States, with over 6 million bowlers who are determined enough to join leagues or other competitions.

With so many people playing it is important to know something about bowling safety. Many players tend to overlook the safety procedures that need to be used when playing the game. Neglecting the safety rules in the bowling alley could cause serious injury, whether playing or observing. Therefore, it is important to know the safety rules when playing the game.

Here are some of the things that each player must try to observe in order to avoid serious injuries.

1. Warm-up exercises

Basically, it is important to have for warm-up exercises before playing the sport. This is a universal rule for every player in whatever sport he or she is participating.

It is important to stretch those muscles in order to avoid serious injuries like “pulled” or torn muscles.

2. Wear the proper bowling shoes

It is important for every bowler to use the right bowling shoes. This will prevent unnecessary slips that cause strained muscles whenever the player has to “slide-step” as he or she “bowls.”

3. Never use one hand in handling the ball

This can create strains of the player’s hands and back. Statistical reports show that 7 out of 10 players use only one hand which is why this is considered the most common mistake of every bowler. Besides, a 16-pound ball is relatively heavy to pick with just one hand, right?

4. Never intersect on the “foul line”

Usually, before the game starts, the lane is lubricated, so if a player crosses the “foul line” or the sides of the lane, the player accumulates oil on his shoes making them slippery. A fall may occur that could cause serious injury.

These are just some of the many safety rules that every bowler must know. Without understanding these safety rules, injury and accidents in the bowling lane will be inevitable.

I am a 16 year old bowler and I have recently (within the last 2 years) become avidly interested in the sport of bowling. I have been playing at least 3 times a week and my average is in the 160’s to 170’s and now I would like to step my game up and enter tournaments in a league. Can anyone tell me how i could find a sponsor so I can buy a decent bowling ball and other bowling gear?

Bill Weaver asked:

The first thing I do when a bowler approaches me for advice is to examine the ball he is using-to determine if it is properly fitted to his hand. Proper fit is most important, for a badly fitted ball handicaps any bowler.

If your bowling ball fits properly, your hand does not feel cramped. If the ball doesn’t fit, your hand is not loose and comfortable, and the results at the pin-end of the alley will not be to your liking.

To determine the proper fit for your hand, insert your thumb almost its complete length into the thumb hole of your ball. The thumb hole should be comfortably loose. The hole should be sufficiently large to allow for a slight expansion of your thumb-for the thumb is likely to puff up during a bowling session. The finger holes may be snug.

After you insert your thumb into the ball, lay your hand flat on the surface of the ball, with the fingers extended over the finger holes. The second joint from the end of your finger (or fingers), should extend at least one quarter of an inch beyond the near rim of the finger hole. If your hand is bulky and not too flexible, the second joint should extend to the middle of the finger hole. This extra span allows you to manipulate the ball better.

After you have selected a ball according to the method described, make a further test to complete your diagnosis. Place your thumb and fingers into the proper holes, pick up the ball, and then insert a pencil into the space between your hand and the ball. If the pencil fits snugly without strain, you are fitted correctly.

When the fit is right, you can carry your ball comfortably up to the foul line. Your hand has a natural feel to it, there is no straining of the thumb or fingers, and you do not squeeze to hold the ball.

You may use either a two or three finger grip. If you have reasonable success with a two-fingered grip, stick to it, and vice versa. The proper fit is the important thing.

Bowling shoes are, of course, a prime necessity. One cannot expect, or even hope, to develop correct footwork and timing without them. While most bowlers are aware of the fact, many persons unfamiliar with the sport do not know that bowling shoes are made differently for each foot. The reason for this is that the sliding shoe is equipped with a sole that permits a slide, while the other shoe, which acts as a brake for the slide, has a rubber sole to accentuate the braking action.

A right-handed bowler slides on the left foot while the right foot acts as a brake. In all of our discussions we are referring to right- handed bowlers. Left-handed bowlers wishing to apply the lessons to themselves need only transpose the word “right” to “left” and vice versa.

A bag in which to carry your ball and shoes is necessary.

With a ball properly fitted to your hand, and a pair of comfortable shoes, you are ready to begin your campaign for a spot in the top bracket of bowlers. If you are able to walk naturally and possess natural co-ordination, there is no limit to the bowling” heights you may attain. Many star bowlers are small men, positive proof that muscle is not the determining factor.

I need to get a shot for a video project I’m working on. It would just be one time that someone would need to slide down the lane. Would a bowling alley let me do this with advance notice and release forms? Or would I be better off just saving it for the last shot and going for it when no one is looking? How much trouble would I get in do you think?

In every sports or any activity that entails strenuous work, it is important to start with some warm up exercises first. This is to avoid any possible injury, which results from muscles that were not yet toned and conditioned before the activity.

In fact, most health experts say that doing warm up exercises increases the capacity of the person to withstand the activity or the game.

It has been clinically proven that warm up exercises can actually boost an individual’s working ability and can lessen, if not eliminate, the chances of injury. It is necessary for every bowler to do some warm up exercises since playing the game could put more strain on the player than anticipated.

Here is a list of some warm up tips that every bowler should learn in order to play the game well - minus the injury:

1. Stretching

When doing stretching exercises that involve the neck and shoulder, it is best to hold each stretch for about eight counts to get utmost results. This will give the muscles enough time to condition.

2. Sweat it out!

It is important to start sweating when doing some bowling warm up exercises. The purpose of the warm up exercises is to raise an individual’s body temperature, at least by 1 or 2 levels.

The point here is that when your body has been warmed up, it will no longer release more heat when it is already doing in very strenuous activity during the game.

3. Stretch those arms

The player’s flexers and extenders should be properly warmed up before playing the game. This will enable the player’s arms to be properly toned so that it can handle the weight and strain of the ball.

4. Breathe out

During warm up exercises, it is important to do some deep breathing. It is best to hold your breath for about 6 counts in between deep breaths in order to condition the lungs. This will enable the person not to tire so easily.

5. Warm up before stretching

Even if stretching is part of a bowler’s warm up routine, it is still important to do some warm up exercises before stretching those muscles. Keep in mind that stretching should never be painful.

These are just some of the few tips that every bowler must bear in mind when doing warm up exercises that will ensure safe and comfortable play throughout the game.

Most people bowl to enjoy the game and be with friends. Birthday parties, reunions, etc. are often held in a bowling alley. This can often be a way of having fun and becoming bonded while playing a game.

The attire of a person in a regular game may depend on the type of occasion to which he was invited. The friends he will be with and the venue are important to remember as these may require that players wear the proper clothing, perhaps like that worn in a tournament or league game.

In a regular game with family or friends, a player may want to wear a nice pair of pants and a T-shirt. Rubber soled shoes are allowed in some venues and if there are these shoes available they would be the better choice. Some alleys have flooring on which a person wearing these would have an advantage…

In tournaments were there are standard rules to be followed, it is important that a person be properly dressed according to the rules set by the organization. Most tournaments require their players to wear T-shirts with collars, slack pants, and leather safety shoes.

There are times that organizers provide the clothing with their logos and trademarks displayed on the clothing. There are also big tournaments where the player has his personal sponsors that provide the clothes and other personal bowling equipments that will be used in the tournament.

Organizers can be strict with their requirements, especially on a competitive level where there is much at stake. The mood may be serious and more disciplined in approach than a casual game where one is just having fun with his family or friends.

Other equipment a casual bowler may consider when he bowling is a leather bowling ball bag that for a personal bowling ball. When choosing a bowling ball, he must make certain that the holes of the ball fit his fingers so that he may execute his bowling moves easily and freely. He may want to find the heaviest ball that would work to his advantage in knocking down pins. The comfort of the bowler is essential especially during the spinning and releasing of the ball.
